ST. PAUL, MN—On Friday, the Department of Homeland Security announced that REAL ID enforcement to board an airplane will take effect January 22, 2018 at the earliest. If states have yet to fully comply, extensions can be granted until October 2020. State Representative John Petersburg, R-Waseca, issued the following statement on REAL ID.

“This notice is just further confirmation that Minnesotans have nothing to worry about when it comes to boarding an airplane,” Petersburg said. “It gives the Legislature more than enough time to address this issue during the 2016 session, and gives our residents peace of mind that their travel plans will not be negatively impacted by REAL ID.”
